Time for Change
I learned a while ago to take photos of my students work and then I learned more recently to take photos of that work on display. This was a project that was a favorite of mine and I would have left it up longer, but the parents were starting to get antsy, wanting their child's work to head home with them.

Gifts from the Great White North
Two of my favorite things that came back with me from my winter break back home. A new old looking North Stars t-shirt and my new favorite sweater. Both were gifts from my Mom, however the sweater was a much longer endeavor as she kitted it ( I do not get my knitting skills from her.) Thanks Mom !

The Successful Project
Here it is, the knitting project that took over my winter break! I am happy to announce that not only does it LOOK like a hat, it FITS like a hat and it is being WORN as a hat. These are all things that make a successful project in my book. I am tempted to do many more of these, but sometimes when you're at the top of your game, it's best just to let it be.

Holiday Space
For the first time in a long time, I got way into the holiday spirit this year and found myself actually buying things that were only associated with Christmas. I think this was perhaps because I had actual space to hang decorations up, and more importantly had a place to store it all once it was time to take it all down. As a teacher I have received some gifts that definitely belonged in the, "it's the thought that counts" category and have also some of the best and thoughtful projects I've ever seen. It was a bit hard to take them all down, so I gave myself until we were well into 2010 to do so.

Remember Swinging ?!?!
I sure do and I loved it. Though it made me sick (thanks to being prone to motion sickness) I still did it as much as I could. I rarely get to hang out on the playground with the kids, but this was an unusually warm day and I needed the sun on my face.* Some 5th graders playing a swinging game they made up.

Picasso Portrait Puzzles
*Each student draws a portrait, either self or made-up. After it is completed we cut it up along the lines and trade puzzle pieces. The result is a pretty cool art project with lots of crazy colors and eyes and noses all over the place.

Almost a Hat

The second attempt at knitting has proven to be a bit more productive. I should admit that I have tried making this hat about three times, and have had to redo it three times. However on the fourth time my mom did a good amount of it, but I figured if you added up all the time I spent on the first three attempts, that it would basically mean that I made this one (that's my justification.) It's almost done, just have to bunch it all together.
*Yes, it is supposed to look squiggly.
